Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Brownish Pink Vaginal Spotting And Nausea While HPT Is Negative?
I have irregular periods, but have been trying to conceive for 6 months. The last 7 days I have had brownish, pinkish and even red spotting. I also have been feeling nauseated on and off for the week. I took a home pregnancy test and it was negative. Could I be pregnant?
Brownish pink vaginal discharge may be seen in the following conditions: 1) Vaginitis 2) Bacterial vaginosis 3) Pelvic inflammatory disease 4) Endometriosis 5) Uterine fibroids 6) Ovarian cysts
As your home pregnancy test is negative, the chance of you being pregnant is almost nil as the test is 99% sensitive. If you have any doubt, you can take the blood test in a hospital and that will be confirmatory. Regarding the vaginal discharge, I recommended a pelvic examination, taking sample of the vaginal secretions, a pap smear.
Treatment of your symptoms depends upon the cause. Infection needs to be treated by oral antibiotics like Metronidazole. Metronidazole cream to be applied topically in vagina. Clindamycin and tinidazole can also be used. Please do consult a gynecologist for detailed clinical examination and appropriate treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
