What Causes Bruise Around The Bottom Of Toe And Foot?

I noticed this morning that my big toe on my right foot is bruised in a circle around the bottom as if I had put a ring on it. The bruise is black in color and at first I thought it was dirt but it didn t wash off. It doesn t hurt too much but thinking it might be broken I taped it to the toe next to it and to the foot itself since the marking was so far down the toe. Besides going to get an x-ray how can I tell if it is broken? And if it isn t broken, what could it be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If you didn't hurt it to something or had an accident I don't think this can be broken. I think you need an X-ray if you hurt it to something. Also, check for possible insect bite on it.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
