Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Bruises On Inner Wrists While On Augmentin For Pneumonia?
My 11 year old son is taking 400 mg of augmentin suspension to treat pneumonia. On the 6th day I started noticing some bruises on his inner wrists. Could the augmentin be causing the bruising? He was also on 60 mg of Orapred for 5 days but he completed this 9 days ago. Should I be concerned? Thanks.
As per my clinical experience, the appearance of rashes or bruises while on Augmentin which contains Amoxicillin with Clavulanic acid is a matter of concern. Out of many common side effects such as loose motions, abdomen cramps and others, skin rash or bruise is documented side effect of the Augmentin use. Kindly stop further doses of Augmentin and consult office of his treating doctor for further guidelines of replacement of molecule or else.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
