What Causes Bruises On The Arms While On Atorvastatin And Aspirin?

My husband is on atorvastatin 40 mg and a baby aspirin. He is having bruising problems on his arms. All he has to do is bump his arm and next thing you know he has a purplish red bruise. What is causing this? He recently had a stroke with a blockage of the basalar artery ( cerebellum) on April 24th. I am concerned about another stroke with these bleed outs on his arms.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I would explain that his symptoms could be related to a coagulation disorder or low platelet count related to Aspirin intake.

For this reason, I would recommend consulting with his attending physician and performing a complete blood count and coagulation tests.

Stopping Aspirin may be needed.

Hope to have been helpful!

Wishing all the best.
