What Causes Bruises On The Calf?

I have found some bruises lately that have no obvious origin. I haven t hurt myself but still they appear unexpectedly. What could the causes be? My most recent one is on the back of my leg on the calf. It is huge and appeared for no apparent reason. What could it be?
