What Causes Bruising And Swelling At Needle Insertion Site?
I went in to get bloodwork done this past Thursday. When the blood tech, attempted to collect the blood she had trouble. My vein began to balloon. She informed me it was due to dehydration. So she removed the needle and instructed me to come back another day because she couldn t get any enough blood out. Today is Monday the brusing and swelling are gone, but I now have a feeling of numbness at the insertion site. Is this normal, does this call for me to be concerned? Oh yeah, the needle was in my hand if that matters at all.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Swelling and bruising at the injection site states that there is inflammation of the vein and tissues of skin surrounding it. Kindly do the following to overcome it. 1. Take anti-inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen twice daily after food. 2. Apply low molecular weight heparin cream over the affected area as a thin layer. 3. Apply cold ice pack over the lesions thrice daily. Keep the area clean and dry. Gradually, your symptoms should subside and be back to normal. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
