What Causes Bruising At The Back Of Knee During Pregnancy?
I am 24 weeks pregnant and a few weeks ago i noticed a large bruise on the inside but back of my knee. I have absolutely no pain, swelling or change in temperature of the knee/leg and was very suprised to see it there. I showed my midwife who just said strange . I think the bruise is starting to fade but really do not recall knocking my leg? What s you advice as i have no symptoms with it. At my midwife check up all was good. Thanks
The appearance of sudden bruise indicates possible issue with coagulation pathway during pregnancy. Though physical signs are normal vital parameters, I would strongly recommend to consult your OBGYN and discuss the need of possible lab tests with: - Complete hemogram - Platelet count with abnormal morphology if any - Coagulation profile with bleeding, clotting time and activated partial thromboplastin time
There are lot many cases of bleeding disorder as well as thrombosis during pregnancy and one must be vigilant for the same.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
