What Causes Bruising On Abdomen With Soreness Post A Bout Of Bronchitis?

I take warfarin for a blood clot in my leg. I have been dealing with bronchitis for over a week with very intense coughing at times - have felt abdominal muscles being strained. I have some bruising on my abdomen. Looking on the internet looks like what I have is called Cullen s sign and Grey-Turner sign. I have an already scheduled visit with my blood doctor tomorrow afternoon and have mentioned the Cullen s sign to the nurse who believes it s because of my coughing. Thinking of waiting until the doctor visit tomorrow to have it checked out.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

To me these appear, neither Cullen's sign and nor grey turner sign. As these are specifically in the para-umbilical area or in the plank area respectively. These are usually painful conditions. In your case, as you are on warfarin, hence rupturing of some small vessel of abdominal wall is most likely due to strain of coughing on the abdominal wall.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
