Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 21 year old daughter has some bruise marks on her inner thigh. They actually look like lines. They have turned darker in color looking to be healing. She has had multiple infections in the last 2 months and has been on multiple antibiotics. I m wondering if this could have something to do with the bruising.??
Hello and welcome to HCM, Bruising on thighs with a history of long term antibiotic therapy may be related. Long term antibiotic therapy can affect the intestinal bacteria which synthesizes vitamin K. These bacteria can be eradicated by the antibiotic. Deficiency of vitamin K can cause disorders of coagulation system and thus bruising on the body. I suggest you to consult your physician and get few investigations - platelet counts, bleeding time, clotting time, prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time. In case there is deficiency of vitamin K it will show up in these tests.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
