What Causes Bubbly Yellow Sticking Out Discharge From Wound?

Hi. I m not sure what to do - a large table fell on my finger today - offcourse at first i felt serious pain, and noticed that there was a small wound with something bubbly and jellow sticking out of it. I thougt it was skin, so i Tried to Cut it with a scissor, but that was too painfull. What do you Think it is? Becks

Hi Becks and thanks for visiting HCM.

The bubbly yellow stuff you described sounds like serous exudate.Serous fluid is normal - all of us have it in our bodies. It is found in many of our body's cavities. It contains proteins, water and cells necessary for day to day functioning. So when there is a wound, serous fluid can sometimes seep out (exudate).

Please do not try to use a scissors on your wound. Gently clean it to prevent infection and dress it. Do ice that sore finger every two hours to reduce the swelling - if there is reduced movement after a few hours, please visit your regular doctor to rule out a fracture.

Hope this helps, thank you.
