What Causes Bulge In Stomach While Laying And Trying To Sit?
I have a large balloon type bulge in my stomach when lying down and trying to sit up. Went to my doctor today and said it was not a hernia but called it something I couldn t remember. said surgery was not necessary so could you tell me what it may be? I vaguely remember it possibly starting with the letter P
Hello, Welcome to HCM. Your doctor might have told you that you have "protuberant abdomen". It is unusual or prominent outward bulging of the abdomen, which may happen due to excessive subcutaneous fat, poor muscle tone, or an increase in the contents of the abdomen like intra-abdominal fat or mass. He has already ruled out hernia and so he would have also ruled out other causes of this like intra abdominal mass due to cancer, ascites, etc. As he rightly said, surgery is not needed but if it is unsightly & bothering to you, then you can go for some cosmetic surgery which can strengthen the abdominal muscle or remove excess fat to relieve the protuberance. Hope this will be helpful. Take care.
