Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I m 50 and lately I noticed bulging veins on both my temples. Yesterday, I was painting my house and works 10+ hours, was not well hydrated and notice the veins in my temple were very, very exposed and bulging like I have never seen before. Should I be concerned?
Veins may bulge out of the skin anywhere in the body. On progressing age, the walls of the veins become thicker and skin becomes thin which makes the veins bulge out and visible over the skin. Forehead regions are also where one can see bulging veins. Depends on the associated symptoms, forehead or temple veins are considered as emergency.
Aging, sun exposure, exercise, headache are some of the common causes for prominent veins. Temporal arteritis is one of the conditions causing inflammation of the walls of the temporal artery and bulging through the skin. This condition is associated with severe throbbing pain. Management depends on the symptoms. Unless otherwise there is associated symptoms, this bulging veins should not be disturbed. Visit the physician for further evaluation and management.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
