What Causes Bump And Red Discolouration On Elbow?

My name is Taylor, I am asking questions in regard to my fiancé.He is stubborn and won t go tot he hospital, so I need a good educated guess on what could be wrong to know if I am over reacting. He has what looks like a pimple sort of bump right on the tip of his elbow. Surrounding that little bump however, is a red discoloration which covers his whole elbow and then some. This redness is hot to the touch, very sensitive and painful even when not being touched. What could this be?

Hi there and thanks for posting your question on HCM.

It sounds as though that your fiance might be having an abscess (a collection of pus) which is causing cellulitis (common bacterial infection of the skin and surrounding tissues) which can result in sepsis (bacterial infection of the blood) if left untreated.
He could have injured himself, thus causing a little wound which led to an abscess. The abscess is the focal point of infection - leaving it untreated has caused cellulitis. Cellulitis spreads to the area surrounding the abscess causing red discoloration, pain and feels hot to the touch.
Your fiance needs to get to a doctor who will examine the area, give him antibiotics to treat the infection and drain the bump if required. Maybe letting him read this will help him understand his situation better. Leaving the abscess untreated is unacceptable as he can potentially fall really ill and require admission to hospital.

Hope this helps.
Thank you.
