Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a hard immovable bump on both left and right mastoid bone. They are about a pea size. I m certain that I have had the one on my left side for about a couple years and recently found the one on the right. I have recently been having aching near both of these bumps and once around my nasal cavity and tonight I have been having neck pain. I did go to my doctor and sort of explained this but he said it was a lymph node.. But I know what that is and I just have a bad feeling about it along with these sudden symptoms. A thought I have had was osteosarcoma .. But I need assurance. Thank you
There are several conditions that might cause knots, lumps, bumps, or nodules behind your ears, near mastoid. It should not always be a cancer which causes such lumps. Other conditions like Infections, mastoiditis, abscess, otitis media, lymphadenopathy (secondary to ear or throat infections), sebaceous cysts, acne vulgaris, lipoma etc can result in it.
What your doctor told you was correct. Relax and self asses yourself. If the lump is soft and pliable, it can be lipoma. If painful on touching, then could be a pimple or an abscess. If with symptoms of fever or chills, then could be a infection.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya Vasudevan, General & Family Physician
