Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can chlamydia spread from your penis to your anus/rectum? Background: I was diagnosed with chlamydia around a month ago but I recieved a one-time shot and a one-time powder (mixed wih water) and the symptoms have kind of gone away. My anus/rectum has been burning/itching for two weeks and it gets worse when I walk around a lot. No bumps or inflamation I can see. I m a heterosexual male (no anal sex) Follow-up, how long should the antibiotics take to get ride of the chlamydia because I m still having symptoms, though they re less severe? Another follow-up, how long should I wait before getting re-tested?
Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease that is commonly treated through antibiotics. Burning/itching on your anus/rectum could be due to alteration of the intestinal flora from antibiotic use.
Take probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora and plenty of fluids and fibre to prevent constipation and further laceration of the rectum. Another test should be run 8 weeks after first diagnosis/treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
