What Causes Burning And Peeling Skin After Taking Triamcinolone Acetonide And Nystatin?
I had a yeast infection and my doctor gave me some medication. At the follow up he said the yeast infection was gone but I was still red and itchy. He prescribed Triamcinolone acetonide with Nystatin 3x/day. The redness and itchyness got a lot worse and I am also feeling like its burning and I m dry and peeling. Is this a normal reaction? Can I/Should I stop using the cream?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Both Triamcinolone Acetonide and Nystatin topical formulation does have a tendency to cause skin irritation and sensitivity leading to burning sensation and peeling. Kindly reduce the application to once a day and in case symptoms of infection has recovered you can stop the medication.
If the burning sensation and peeling is still persistent after reducing dosage it could be a sign of an allergic reaction or irritation to the medication. You should stop using the cream, you can try applying a cold compress and Calosoft lotion to ease with symptoms. Kindly reach out to your doctor if any alternative can be prescribed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.
