What Causes Burning And Swelling In Knee?

I was on my feet all day on a gym floor, with excellent sneakers. I am now experiencing a burning on the outside of my knee and swelling about the width of a quarter on the outside of the knee cap. The burning wraps around to the back of the knee as well

Dear thanks for the question.

I think you have hurt your knee joint by over exertion. Majority of the times it is not very serious as it subsides on a week rest. You need to use knee support which will help you during recovery process. You need to take pain killer also to remain at comfort and it will reduce the inflammation too. In extreme case(if pain remains, swelling increases, movements become difficult) it could be a serious damage to ligaments of knee joint, in that case you need to visit orthopaedic specialist to under go arthroscopic examination to come to a definitive diagnosis.
