What Causes Burning Pain And Extreme Itching Of Sores On Left Arm?

Hi! I am a 68 year old female with an outbreak of sores on my left arm causing excruciating burning pain and extreme itch . There is some temporary relief when ice is applied. I had a similar experience in 2005 and two dermatologists said it was neurological in origin and the neurologilist said that was bunk.i have previously been diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome. My doctor prescribed gabapentin with minimal results other than to help me sleep. Topical applications of diclofenac have no effect.i am desperate for a diagnosis and any thoughts on my condition would be great fully appreciated!!! Please help!

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It sounds like shingles. This can cause a rash with severe pain.

If the gabapentin is not working for you then there are other medications that can be tried eg lyrica, amitriptyline, tegretol
These are some of the meds that can be used for nerve related pain though they have other uses as well.

One of these can be combined with another type of pain killer for maximum effect.

I hope this helps
