What Causes Burning Sensation And Itchiness In The Ear?

I have trigeminal neuralgia and suffer from burning itching ear canals along with swelling that comes out like a ball on the side of my left face when I eat and sometimes it comes on with no food. It hurts and stays swollen for hours at a time and once its back down the trigeminal nerves go crazy and I am in severe pain. I have been to the doctor and am like a test subject at this point and frustrated with no answer as to what causes the swelling and the pain. Its not stones and its not cancer. Do you know what this could be?

Hi,

As you say you have trigeminal neuralgia due to that you experience pain as well. But the way you present history swelling on eating and involvement of ear points to infection of parotid glands which lies near the ear. There is no need to worry but there is need to evaluate it properly I suggest you report to an oral medicine specialist. He will do an examination and necessary tests like sialogram. You may also need MRI and CT to find the cause of neuralgia and accordingly it would be treated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
