What Causes Burning Sensation And Numbness On The Feet?

Hello doctor... I think I may have diabetes as I have looked up the symptoms and looks like I may have some of them. Burning feet at time with numbness and on the front of the bottom of my feet just behind my toes I sometimes have pins and needles pain. The other thing that I have recently noticed was that my knees, elbow and fingers are very tender and hurt when pressed. What could this be?.

Hi,

The symptoms at the feet might be caused by diabetes especially because if diabetes has been present for a while and undetected and not treated can bring peripheral neuropathies which can cause similar symptoms.

It might be safer for you to have a fasting sugar test done and rule it out. As for the pains on the knees, elbow and fingers, it is not common with diabetes to cause similar symptoms, they might happen with other conditions from ostheoarthritis which is arthritis due to age and mostly in overweight people or it can be from other immune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or others.

In this case a visit with the doctor will help to direct if it is ostheoarthritis (generally there is no local heat or redness or swelling on the joint) or immune condition (these cause swelling, redness or local heat) and will also order the proper tests and examinations to finalize the diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
