What Causes Burning Sensation At The Incision Site After An Appendectomy?

Hello please permit me to ask two questions I ve had an laparoscopy appendectomy performed a year ago. To date I ve realised I m experiencing a somewhat burning sensation at the location where my appendix used to be Is this normal? and if not what can be the possible reasons for this burning sensation?

Hi,

I understand your concern.

Laparoscopy appendectomy is an easy procedure and usually is not associated with any complication. If you had regular check ups during this year to see the wound status from the surgeon, then, the burning sensation you are experiencing could be due to adherences following surgery.

I advise to consult surgeon further and run ultrasound of the abdomen, focusing on the appendix site to see the changes there.

Urine analysis is also recommended to rule out urinary tract infection (UTI).

The possible cause for pain at the scar tissue site is due to damage to small skin nerves. You can apply capsaicin cream to relieve the pain. Anti seizure medication like Gabapentin can also be tried.
