Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Burning Sensation During Urination While On Simvastatin?
I have been taking simvastatin for 3 months now , and 2 weeks ago I started burning before I urinate and then a constant burning all the time being going on now for over 2 weeks .I went back to the DR. and he prescribed a pill that I should take 1 and 4 days later the other one, I am still burning
Your symptoms point to a urinary tract infection. However, linking your symptom to simvastatin depends on your age as simvastatin has only been linked to urinary symptoms in men older than 60years.
My patients with symptoms of urinary tract infection are adviced to take over-the-counter pain killers, drink a lot of water, and run urine tests called urinalysis and urine culture which detects what microbe is responsible for the infection. I'd advise you do the same. The latter result would determine what antibiotic to be prescribed. However, before test results come in, I prescsibe bactrim or ciprofloxacin for my patients.
I hope I have answered your question, and I'd be glad to answer more if you've got any.
Best wishes.
