Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I Hi my name is a Rich. I had a urine dipstick done for a work physical about three weeks ago. They informed me of microscopic hematuria, two weeks later I noticed hematospermia, today I am having extreme burning when I urinate. I suspect stones. Do you have any other possibilities? Oh , also I recently was on antibiotics for a bacterial sinus infection for 10 days. Amoxicillin. So I m thinking if it was an infection the antibiotics would have cleared that up. Plus I have no history of uti or kidney infections and I m 48 years old.
Your symptoms suggest either an obstruction of the lower urinary tract or an infection. A urinalysis and urine culture may help to distinguish between them. If hematuria was the only finding then the obstruction sounds more likely.
Perhaps an ultrasound scan will reveal signs of obstruction or even a stone. A CT scan is a more sensitive way to identify signs of obstruction and will definitely reveal stones large enough to cause obstruction.
If there are signs of infection then the type of infection will have to be identified. Frequency suggests cystitis. Burning pain alone usually suggests other types of lower urinary tract infection like urethritis, prostatitis etc.
I hope I've answered your question. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
