Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Chest burns are most often as a result of stomach
acid reflux.Respiratory and heart problems may easily be ruled out with paraclinical investigations. However, ruling out gastroentestinal reflux may be very difficult.
Gastric reflux is always as a result of lower oesophageal sphincter abnormality or weakness which may only be revealed by a an oesophageal motility test. This sphincter opens to let food into the stomach and closes to prevent reflux.I will suggest you take the
CT scan as planned. It may not show anything as well if the cause is not organic. However, most abnormalities with lower oesophageal sphincter are functional and may not be revealed by ST scan.
I will advise you try the following:
-Take an anti-secretory like omeprazole
-Take an antacid/antireflux like topaal
-regular exercises
-Weight control
-Avoid going for long without food
-Avoid foods that aggravate chest burns
-Avoid eating and lying immediately
-Elevate the head of your bed
-Avoid
smoking and alcohol
If these measures do not help you, you see a Gastrologist for evaluation.
Hope my answer will help
Best regards
