General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the burning may be due to neuropathy which refers to abnormal function of the nerves.

There are different possible causes such as: (1) infection- shingles can cause abnormal sensations in different aspects of the body
(2)vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
(3)diabetes
(4)trauma to the nerves supplying the area eg arthritis in the spine
(5)liver or kidney disease
(6)side effect of medication

Blood tests to check kidney and liver function, vitamin levels and screening for infection can be done.

I hope this helps
