What Causes Burning Sensation In The Armpit And Shoulder?
Hello, I have a question about my mum. She has a burning sensation on her skin in under arm area and shoulder. There is nothing visible on the skin and it s been a month now that it s happening. I am concerned as I don t know what to do. Could you please help me and mum? Thank you in advance Kind regards Mila Simic
Burning sensations in the skin can be due to different possible causes.
It may be related to neuropathy which is an abnormal function of the nerves in the area. This can be temporary or permanent.
Some of the more common causes of neuropathy are: (1) infection such as shingles (2) diabetes (3) liver or kidney disease (4) side effect of medication (5) trauma to the nerves that supply that area eg arthritis of the spine (6) low levels of vitamin B12 or folate (7) abnormal B6 levels (8) thyroid disease
If it continues, blood tests may help determine if one of these is present. There are medications that can help with neuropathy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
