General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. THe numbness/ pain/ swelling of fingers is due to pressure on the nerve supplying the affected part . You have typical symptoms of carpel tunnel syndrome, where the pain & discomfort can go up to arm, fore arm & some times shoulder too. In my opinion there is need to exclude the other sites of compression ( spinal outlet/ shoulder/ arm & fore arm where the median nerve/ radial nerve can be compressed ) .. by investigations CT scan, nerve conduction studies. A specific treatment would include anti inflammatory drugs, steroids, physiotherapy or surgery. An orthopedic surgeon will help you in this respect, Thanks.
