Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Burning Sensation In The Mouth And Tongue?
I have something in my mouth and tongue that started on my tongue that burned then I ate something spicy, now it is to the point anything I eat or drink (A&W root beer) makes my mouth, my tongue is the worst and that lasts about 5 seconds. My gums, roof of my mouth and everything except teeth hurt.
I just want to know which specialty Doctor should I see.
As per your complain it seems that Burning sensation in mouth and tongue seems to be due to Burning Mouth Syndrome.. Burning tongue/mouth syndrome is a condition in which there is burning sensation inside mouth and can also be associated with a scalded feeling and can also experience numbing sensation..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical examination and investigations like blood tests can be advised..
Treatment of underlying cause will resolve the symptoms.. As of now to get relieved you can start gargling with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine.. Take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.. Avoid spicy foods and take a soft bland diet.. Suck ice pops..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
