What Causes Burning Sensation In The Neck And Arm?

yes please. My husband, age 49, has had problems with a burning pain running from his neck to right arm, stopping at the point, let s say where you get shots if in the arm. He just had a cortisone shot a week ago. He just woke up in excruciating pain to the point of screaming. This is a man that refuses to go to er. i have never seen him in this much pain, and i have been with him 15 years. Also he is an electrician and a majority of his work is overhead with heavy tools

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Judging from your description a nerve compression is the most likely cause. The origin of the compression most commonly is a herniated disc, a displacement of one of the cartilagenous discs between your vertebrae which may compress the nerve. However that has to be confirmed by imaging exams, a neck MRI would be the exam of choice.

I hope he feels better soon.
