My Mother has pain on the bottoms of her toes, like her skin is burning. There are no visible signs so we re not sure what could be causing it. it s been going on for a couple of months. She does have arthritis pain between her toes. But this pain is different. She s 87.
First of all, I would like to know if your Mother has diabetes or not because one of the long term complication of peripheral neuropathy which may manifest as burning sensation in toes and feet as whole. Other commom cause include- 1. Sitting in one position for a long time 2. Injury 3. Circulation problem that impairs blood flow 4. or may be an ill fitting footwear 5. Deficiency of certain Vitamins(eg: Pyridoxine) Alcoholism , is another cause for peripheral neuropathy.
Consultation with a neurologist in case of Pain and numbness or headache may be considered.
