What Causes Burning Sensation In The Vaginal Area?

I have a lot of burning in my vagina area. I went to the gynecologist and they stated I seemed very dry and prescribed a medication name Osephena for painful intercourse. I now have itching and burning right at the tip of my vagina and am very uncomfortable.
