What Causes Burning Sensation Inside Or Behind The Breast?

I experienced a burning sensation inside or behind my right breast yesterday. It felt like being poked with fire. That was yesterday; today, I haven t experienced any of the same pain at all. I have been working out at The Y, and I cashier on a part-time basis. Should I be worried about cancer? I plan to make an appointment with an OB-GYN next week. Thanks for your consideration...

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Non-cyclic breast pain is most common in women's reproductive age. It is often unilateral and is described as a sharp, burning pain that appears to be localized in the breast. Non-cyclic breast pain is occasionally secondary to the presence of a fibro-adenoma or cyst. See ultrasound with GYN doctor is the best choice.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Heang Chan Raksmey, General & Family Physician
