What Causes Burning Sensation On The Ankle After Using Crutches?
I broke my ankle exactly a week ago... I got a cast about 4 days ago ( i had a splint on before) since i got the cast everytime i get up to go to the bathroom using my crutches there is this horrible burning sensation and my foot turn purple immediately!!! Please help im 25 weeks pregnant and cant take any pain killers.
Very likely the cast is a bit more tight than it should be that is why when you stand (the blood in the leg increases when we stand) the pressure is higher and may block the blood flow in the foot.
You will need to talk to your doctor about this as soon as possible because if not attended serious damage can happen to your foot. Meanwhile keep your foot higher to reduce the swelling and reduce pressure there.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
