What Causes Burning Under The Rib And Center Of The Chest?
Hi, I am a 41-year old female. I have been experiencing moderate burning under the right rib, in the center of my chest and in my back for the past month. I had my gallbladder removed six months ago. I also sometimes get nauseaous after I eat. My doctor put me on prevacid, which helps symptoms but doesn't totally relieve them. I have noticed that if I don't take prevacid, I will usually wake up with my throat red and raw. No regurgitation though. Around the same time that I developed the digestive symptoms, I also developed what the doctor thinks is a thyroid nodule. I am awaiting referrals to get abdominal and thyroid ultrasounds.
My question is this: isn't there a connection between h pylori and thyroid issues? Curious because I had an ulcer twenty years ago and now the doctor thinks I should be tested for h pylori.
Hi. thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. H. pylori infection is not related to thyroid nodule and it can occur any time hence not related to something that occurred 20 years ago; hence you have to get the fresh clinical evaluation, examination and investigations. Burning pain under right rib can be due to costochondritis as the gall bladder has already been removed. Prevacid helping with pain in chest and back getting relief with Prevacid indicate that you have severe acidity problem with esophagitis due to GERD and hence you get red throat if you do not take Prevacid. Hence I would advise you to get an upper GI Endoscopy done to get a proper diagnosis done as soon as possible. Get an opinion of a General Surgeon or ENT Surgeon who deal with thyroid for proper evaluation and investigations of Thyroid function, ultrasonography and guided FNAC to get the exact diagnosis and to rule out cancer; get operated if required.
