What Causes Burping Upon Applying Oil Below The Sternum?
Hi there. I have metastic breast cancer, with mets to the liver. I have been massaging in essential oils into the area at the base of my sternum where the liver is a hard mass. And every time I do so, I burp a little. Is this something to be concerned about?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Massaging at the base of sternum stimulates diaphragmatic/epigastric muscles to contract and expel out gas in stomach. It is a normal body reaction to massaging, nothing to be concerned about. About massaging the metastasized liver, it should be avoided and consultation of treating doctor (oncologist) is advised before you continue it.
Thank you.
