Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently miscarried 2 weeks ago. Upon my follow up appointment, my doctor perscribes me metronidazole and methylergonovine. Yesterday, I choked on the metronidazole and violently vomitted shortly after. Sure enough a blood vessel bursts in my eye and I m pretty sure its a subconjunctive hemmorage. Today it seems as if the blood is pooling in my eye and creating a small sack . I fear it may burst further. Should I continue taking these medications? I m not sure if they re anticoagulants or not.
Normally, Metronidazole does not have any known side effects like effect on coagulation. However, nausea and vomiting are common side effects of Metronidazole. The reason of your symptoms seem to be due to something else. It may be possible that straining during the act of vomiting might have been a cause of sub-conjunctival hemorrhage or the like. Usually such types of symptoms go away by itself within a week or so, but if these persist or increase, then a consultation with an ophthalmologist is advised.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
