Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Calf Muscle Spasms And Pain At Night After Taking Boniva?
Yes. I have recently taken Boniva ( only been on it once a month for approx 6 months ). Took it 3 days ago. Been having calf/muscle spasms at night and still hurting now ( feels almost numb but not tightening as it did last night ). I know there can be other diagnosis s for muscle tightening, but can this be a common side affect while taking Boniva??
Side effects of Boniva are diarrhea, dehydration, headache, backache, pain in the arms and legs, etc. It may also cause numbness, muscle spasms, unusual pain in the thighs and muscle stiffness. Do not take alcohol when you are taking Boniva. Avoid addictions if any. Since you are having muscle spasms, hurting and numbness, you are suggested to inform your treating doctor so that the medicine can be stopped or replaced by another that suits you better.
Take ORS, water and fluids, stay well hydrated to stay comfortable. Since you experienced numbness you are suggested to get clinically examined by a Neurologist to rule out any developing neurological disorder.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
