What Causes Change In Stool Color Of A Child?

Hi, My son s poop looked very pale to me. It was white and very pale yellow in some parts. He s not acting fussy or off. He is eating, drinking and playing as normal. This is the first time that has happened and he has not had a bm since (been about 3 hours since that diaper). He usually only goes once a day, but for the past three days has gone at least twice. It s been mushier than usual. I think he started going more often during his birthday party. Many people fed him different things and I think he ended up having some shrimp ceviche - cooked with lime juice only, no heat. I m wondering if he may be recovering from a bug or if it s something worse? I will contact our pediatrician in the morning, but I want to make sure I don t have to take him to the ER now. Thanks!

Hello,

Because your son is not having frequent bowel movements and because this is the first time you noticed the pale stools and he is not complaining, you need just to have a look on him for a while. There is no need to rush to the ER at the moment.

Just give him healthy food (avoid junk food and sweets and candies), keep him hydrated and keep an eye on his stools and symptoms.
If his stools continue to be pale for more than 3-4 days or he develops diarrhea or is any worse, you will need to have him checked.

I hope this answers your query and is helpful to you. Let me know if I may assist you further.

Regards,
