What Causes Change In Voice After Taking Doxycycline Hyclate?

Dr. -- I recently took Doxycycline Hyclate for a skin condition on my eyes, crusting, flaking, and eyelid sores. That, along with a steroid shot cleared up that problem, but caused a serious problem with my singing voice. I have no power or range and it literally happened overnight. I am very distressed. I am no longer on the medication and wonder if this side effect will go away.Thank You

Hi,

Doxycycline is known to cause throat irritation, which if involves vocal cords can affect voice temporarily.

Keep on gargling, sucking cough lozenges as per need, avoid stress to voice till recovery.

Steroids are taken for a long course. Its androgenic effect can cause lengthening of vocal cords, which may turn irreversible. But continue with self-care for improving singing. Sucking/chewing of Liquorice root would help.
