What Causes Change Of Flavor While Eating Anything?

My six year old son has complained that everything he eats tastes like rubber. Foods from pancakes to fruit, all taste like rubber to him. He brushes every morning and night. No symptoms of an ear infection. What might be causing the sudden change of flavor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A viral infection that is affecting the upper respiratory system may cause a change in smell and flavor.
The child may have some runny nose, cough, fever, sore throat or may not have any other symptoms. No specific treatment is needed for this but make sure the child eats and drinks in frequent small amounts to keep hydrated.

This generally lasts a few days and should not go beyond 2 weeks. If the change in flavor lasts more than 2 weeks it is best to see a doctor.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
