What Causes Chemical Smell In The Nose Followed By Dizziness?

Several weeks ago I had an episode where I had a very distinct chemical type smell, almost immediately followed my a very strange lightheadedness and feeling that I might pass out. My breathing was also very heavy and I got flush and hot. I was driving, and by the time I could get from the left lane and to the side of the road it was gone. I had taken 1000mg of Naproxen about an hour before so I thought that was the cause. But it happened again w/o the naproxen.
