Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Chest Congestion And Dark Green Phlegm?
I have been severely congested for about 2 weeks now. I recently just gave birth 11/30 and wanted to know what I should do. All the otc Medications I ve been using have not been working. What do you suggest? Also, just recently my chest has been hurting and is kind of hard to breathe. My phlegm is dark green I m praying it s nothing too serious but I am also in a lot of pain.
The symptoms you have are suggestive of a lower respiratory tract infection. The difficulty breathing warrants a visit to your doctor for antibiotics and a chest X-ray if clinically indicated. It is imperative that you start antibiotics as early as you can do that you do not spread any infection to baby and so you may recover as quickly as possible to recommence breastfeeding. Do inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding as certain medications need to be avoided.
Hope this helps.
