What Causes Chest Discomfort And Shortness Of Breath?

Hi Dr. Rynne, I felt like I had indigestion when I woke up this morning, after eating shortly before bedtime. The symptoms were a little different than I ve had in the past. There was a tightness in the center of my chest, towards the back, and at one point I had some shortness of breath. The shortness of breath didn t last too long, but I still have the tightness. Should I be concerned? I am a healthy 66 year old female.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There are many possibilities for your symptoms, such as anxiety, physical activity, and heart and lung conditions which can be excluded by complete clinical and laboratory assessment. You have to go to the nearest medical center for routine evaluation.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Take care.
