My mom had a stent put in almost a month ago she had 80% +blockage they put her on zanax for panic attack and she had to stop smoking..as of today she is still getting chest pains and she has stoped taking the zanax should she continue to take them to help the chest pains
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
The first few weeks after quitting smoking are usually the most difficult and normally takes at least 8-12 weeks before a person starts to feel comfortable with their new lifestyle change of being an ex-smoker. Physical Symptoms of withdrawal in the first few weeks include tightness in the chest- probably due to tension created by the body’s need for nicotine; may be caused by sore muscles from coughing (part of the recovery process may be the lung’s attempt to remove mucus and tar). Deep breathing and relaxation techniques will help. Alprazolam 0.25 to 0.5 mg orally daily is usually recommended for Panic Disorder in elderly patient. A few more weeks of therapy may be needed for body to return to normal. Frank recurrent chest pain however needs evaluation by your doctor to rule out micro-vascular angina or other causes.
