What Causes Chest Pain And Chills?

Hi my husband is being treated for duel pulmonary embolism although we believe there is more going on. He has heart pains where he grab a his chest but isn t having a heart attack no hormones are found in he blood. He is also experiencing chills and cold sweats, lowered heart rate, insomnia, sensitivity to temperature changes and sever mood swing. In the past year he has lost 100 pounds and can t eat most foods, he is only eating proteins as veggies give him awful abdominal pain and he can t seem to swallow anything starchy. Our Primary care doc has him on blood thinners for the embolism but it treating nothing else. Is there more we should be doing or another doctor we should be seeing?

Hi there,

The standard treatment for a first time pulmonary embolism is 6 months of blood thinners, usually warfarin. I'd recommend he stay on the blood thinner for 6 months. If he's had multiple episodes, he should stay on the blood thinner for life, as he's higher risk for pulmonary embolism. He should also be tested for hypercoagulable disorders such as Factor V linden, protein C and S deficiency, Lupus anticoagulant, and hyperhomocystenemia. If he has one of these conditions, he should stay on the blood thinners for life as well.

I hope I have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
