Hi. I ve had a metallic taste in my mouth, coming and going for over a month. Subsequent to the funny taste, I began to experience sudden chest pains. I went to the doctor and got a good review: chest xrays (OK), EKG and heart ultrasound (everything good). The pain is sudden, debilitating but passing, feeling as if it were a bubble passing through the chest area; it does not seem related to exercise, and sometimes feels worse if I lean forward. He said if those things are ruled out (I didn t tell him about the taste, as it didn t occur to me that it might be linked), it is probably esophagal, and gave me an antacid (aciphex). The chest pains disappeared, and I have been taking the antactid daily since then, but now it has been nearly a month, and the metallic taste has started to creep back, and again I have begun to feel the chest pains, although much less severe (but the first time they also started mild, but progressed in both frequency and intensity). I am an insulin-dependent, relatively well-maintained Type I diabetic, diagnosed at 22. I am now 42, 6 1 , and weigh 225. The chest pains have me worried, and the metallic taste is unpleasant. The tests are very expensive at my doctors, and I d love to hear your advice.
