What Causes Chest Pain In A Child?

My 5-year-old daughter complained of chest pains and a GP ordered an ECG to investigate. The result was abnormal - ectopic atrial rhythm; marked high-lateral depolarisation disturbance; large negative T in I aVL . We have a paediatrician appointment next week but it would be nice to better understand this. Should I stop her from running in the school cross country event, which is prior to the paediatrician appointment? - Thanks in advance

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

I would explain that her symptoms could be related to possible cardiac arrhythmia or a congential cardiac defect.

For this reason, I would recommend avoiding straining physical activity until consulting with her doctor.

A cardiac ultrasound and thyroid hormone levels are needed to investigate for the possible causes underlying these ECG findings.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
