Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello: My soon-to-be 11-year-old son has had a few instances of chest pain in the past couple of months. Two of these episodes occurred with me while I was reading to him in bed and he was in rather a slouched position. Tonight he was laughing when the pain occurred. It goes away in a few seconds. He reported that he remembers this happening another time when he was watching television (most likely slouched somewhat as well, despite my husband's and my urgings for him to correct his posture). I'm wondering if these pains have something to do with his posture at the time. He also is tall for his age and could be going through a growth spurt, and I've read that chest pains can accompany those. Thank you for your help.
I went through your details. Growth sprut has some minute relationship with chest pain, but it is more myalgic. Slouch position can be associated with the chest pain. Acidity and sedentery life style can be associated. Your child is 11 year and he will be playing. Naturally we don;t take care to see what were the activities he did prior to the chest pain episodes. Some hard exercises, playing positions, twitches etc can cause myalgia. Moreover, children just don;t be serious about it and they try to asspsicate it with past happenings. the pain also could be just an obsession. Simple chest pain which vanishes within some minutes has nothing to worry. Still, to be sure, I suggest you to consult a pediatrician.
