What Causes Chest Pain On The Left Side?

I got a strange pain while driving. It came on sudden, lasted about 30 seconds went away for a minute then hit me again. Symptoms. As I was driving I suddenly felt a sharp pain on left side of chest. My hand automatically gripped the area, my whole body from my head to tow became extremely rigid and my jaws locked. I lost control of my car and I was driving about 35 miles per hour and heading for a stop sign but could do nothing to stop my car. The pain stop so I pulled over. I was stunned and scared. Then it happened again. Lucky I had my gear on park. I was so scared to drive but only a few blocks from home. I didn t have a cell phone at the time. I thought that maybe it was a heart attack or angina. But I have not found these symptoms on the net. Could it have be an aneurysm?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have not mentioned any history of your past illness. However, chest pain on the left side that may radiate to the left arm & spread all along the neck & jaws are indicative of symptoms of developing CAD, it could be symptoms of an attack, MI generally confused with acid reflux or angina.

You are suggested to visit a cardiologist & get physically examined. Get CBC, Urinalysis, Blood sugar(R/PP), Lipid Profile, ECG, x-ray, Echocardiography, stress test & if needed Holter monitor test is done.

Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected. Cut on alcohol, smoking & addictions if any. Take food cooked in Olive oil & avoid spicy, junk & packaged food.

Avoid red meat & high protein diet. Take whole grain, avoid refined floor. Take plenty of veggies, fruits & berries.

Do regular walking & exercises. You will be treated with medications or surgery depending upon the reports of the investigations & Imaging tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
