What Causes Chest Pain On The Left Side?

Hi. Yesterday and today I experienced heart pain. I have mitral valve prolapse and I’m 18. It started abruptly and it lasted for about 10 sec, during that time not being able to move because I was trying not to make it worse. Today, after the initial 10 secs it continued to feel slightly painful on the left side. What do you think it was?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

If the pain was affected by movements, breathing or touching it is very likely a muscular pain and you can try to take paracetamol and ibuprofen to help with it.
If the pain is like a tightness or a heavy weight in your chest but is not affected by movement, breathing or touch than the chances for a heart related pain is higher. It is very uncommon to have heart problems in your age unless you are an athlete, you use cocaine or have severe prolapse due to mitral valve problems (you should know this due to the heart ultrasound that diagnosed the mitral valve prolapse).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
